Through the Artist’s Eye – Contemporary Artworks from the New Norcia Collection is an exhibition, which transports audiences on a journey of discovery. The exhibition draws on artworks that express its unique Christian life and the relationship with the Indigenous people of the area.A fine selection of Australia’s prominent artists alongside West Australian emerging artists present diverse and modern interpretations of the spiritual concerns.
The Contemporary Art Collection of New Norcia includes works that express the history of the place, the unique landscape, the relationship with the Indigenous people of the area and represent the values and stories of Christian life. The exhibition includes a variety of styles and techniques including photography, painting, and printmaking.
Paintings by David Gregson, Ian Hill, George Gittoes, Kevin Robertson, Kenneth Jack, John Coburn, Lois Tilbrook, Weaver Hawkins, Annette Allman, Jillian Green, Douglas Kirsop and Brian McKay express ideas of the past, the Western Australian landscape, and faith in a breadth of styles from abstraction to realism.
Compositions by Victor France, Glen Hughes and Miriam Stannage demonstrate the creative potential of photography. Indigenous perspectives are presented in works by Norma MacDonald, Debbie Nannup and Linda Napaltjarri. Artworks by Tom Gibbons and Graham Fransella express ideas of humanity in vastly different styles and techniques.
